Guest Writer

While I am figuring out how to download videos to my blog-(any ideas, Crystal? I have a great video clip of Jan and his favorite Christmas present. It's a must see, if I do say so myself. ) - I thought I'd let Jens be my guest writer today. Recently he had an assignment in his college English class to describe himself in 3rd person in a double spaced 1 page paper. I love what he came up with and it describes him perfectly.
About Myself Paper
Jens Howe
The football player slowly squatted down into his stance, pounding his hand into the soft grass. His red jersey beamed in the late afternoon sun. Keeping most of his weight on the balls of his feet, he concentrated to listen to the count of the quarterback. He was completely focused on the task ahead of him. In the background, the school band played the fight song as cheerleaders yelled and the huge crowd rumbled and screamed with exitement. This was it; the first play of the year and the ball was going to him on a tight end sweep. When the quarterback confidently yelled "Hike!", the player's cleats dug into the grass and he propelled his body towards the quarterback to receive the hand-off. He pushed his feet into the ground with as much force as a horse coming out of the stocks in a horse race. He got to the quarterback at a full sprint and received the hand-off. Drops of sweat gleamed as they dripped across his face. Black eye paint smeared down his cheeks, creating the appearance of an Indian warrior going into battle. Dodging opposing players coming at him from every direction, the player clinched the ball with all his strength. He became a red and black flash as he advanced the ball past the defenders. Under his silver helmet, his eyes wore the look of total focus, but his expression was reckless. The player lowered his shoulder to prepare for the impact of an oncoming defender. The football player gritted his teeth and smiled as he prepared for the collision.

Pretty good, huh! I think he will make a great blogger someday. That is, AFTER he gets over his football obsession.

Wow. Reading that I felt like I was in the moment with him! Has Aunt Sue read it yet? We may have another writer in the family!

You sure Jens wrote that??? Well, all I can say is that he takes after his Mom. (Maybe his Dad, too, but his Dad doesn't have time to write a blog so I don't know for sure.) That was fantastic!! A+ He can get a scholarship in football AND in creative writing!
